30 Ways for Muslims to encounter Christ

Muslims and Christians often use the same Arabic word for “prayer”. The meanings of that word, however, could not be more different. Islamic salat “prayer” describes the memorized recitations that Muslims must speak and the motions they must go through five times a day. Christian “prayer” describes two-directional conversation with God where Christians humbly approach the throne of grace with confidence to present requests and praise, they listen to God, and are thus transformed. Today we ask for Muslims in Nashville to have the opportunity to be prayed for by a Christian and for them to have a divine encounter with God through it.

Liberty to the Captives

Each of us who comes to Christ must repent of and renounce every pact, promise, or identity we held before faith in Christ. Join us in praying for our brothers and sisters in Christ from a Muslim background as they repent of their former identity as Muslims. This prayer is inspired by chapter 7 and 8 of Liberty to the Captives by Mark Durie

We can consider it a joy to suffer in Christ’s name. “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds…” (James 1:2).

Pray for those following Christ in Nashville to renounce the lie that suffering for the sake of Christ is shameful.

Praying Scripture

“The Lord says: ‘Turn to me now while there is time. Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Don’t tear your clothing in grief; tear your hearts instead.’ Return to the Lord your God, for He is merciful and compassionate. He is eager to relent and not punish. Who knows? He might turn and leave behind a blessing instead of a curse. Therefore, announce a solemn assembly; call the people together to fast and pray” (Joel 2, selections).

Pray for a spirit of prayer, fasting, and repentance to fall on the believers in Nashville.
Pray for a seriousness and urgency among believers.
Pray that God would respond to the prayers of Nashville and that he send blessings on them.

Pray for wisdom about if/where Christians in Nashville should use money in the emerging discipling network so that the movement ends up being healthy.

Claiming Our Hope in Christ and His Heart for the Nations

O Father! We come to you poor in spirit, asking…imploring…begging you for intervention in this nation and at this time. We pray, Lord, that you would raise up intercessors, people willing to stand in the gap for Nashville. Raise up your prayer-warriors, and mobilize the believers to pray.

May we pray instead of staying busy.
May we pray instead of scheduling more activities.
May we pray instead of filling up our time.

Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Capture our hearts again. And make Nashville a nation of sacrificial, extraordinary prayer and fasting.

PRAISE

“All the [Nashville] nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name.” (Psalm 86:9)

KINGDOM COME

“When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path.” (Matthew 13:19)

We pray for many hearts in Nashville to be receptive to the Kingdom seed that would take root, grow, and reproduce 30, 60, and 100 fold.

PRAY THE BOOK OF ACTS

“‘I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’… and the word of the Lord was spreading throughout the whole region.” (Acts 13:47,49) Thank you that Nashville is a part of those ‘ends of the earth,’ Lord. We agree with your word today, Father, and pray that it would spread throughout the whole of Nashville and the region. 

PRAY THE HALL OF FAITH

“By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was in the act of offering up his only son, of whom it was said, “Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.” (Hebrews 11:17-18) Lord, may Nashville be like Abraham, exhibiting radical, immediate, and costly obedience. “
